Northgate Soccer Teams Get Big Wins Over Alexander

On Tuesday, the Northgate Soccer teams played host to former region foe Alexander. The Lady Vikings coming off a run to the final 4 and the Boys looking to capatalize on a fantastic season as well that ended in the second round with a loss to Union Grove.
Girls started off with some first game jitters, but quickly found their way en route to a 4-0 victory against the Lady Cougars. Lily Sawyer got the scoring started in the first half. Liv Zepp and Ava Metts each added a goal before the break to give the Lady Vikes the 3-0 lead at halftime. After the break, the offense slowed a little, but Brooke Wells was able to find the back of the net for the fourth Viking goal of the evening.
Boys game was not as slow of a start, but was proof that they were looking for an even better season with a 5-0 win over Alexander. Michael Dobur got the scoring started with a first half goal and Stephen Hurlock hit one right behind him to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead at halftime. Christian Dieters and Justice Willis each scored a goal in the second half. Stephen Hurlock got his second goal of the night to close out the game and cap off the victory.
Lady Vikes traveled to Birmingham on Wednesday where they fell to Spain Park HS 3-2. The Boys traveled to Oak Mountain and fell 6-2. Lady Vikes are now 1-1, while the boys are 1-2 including Monday’s loss to Whitewater.
Vikings are back in action with the girls on the road at Whitewater on Friday, and the boys will be at a tournament in Alabama on Saturday. The teams will return home again on Valentine’s Day as they host Holy Innocents Episcopal. Region play for Northgate will begin on March 8 when they travel to McIntosh.
