On Tuesday, the Northgate Girls Lacrosse team hosted the Lady Bucaneers of Allatoona. The Lady Bucs were coming off a scrimmage win against Newnan and a home opener loss against Sequoyah. The Lady Vikings came into the game looking for a win to open their regular season after falling to Starr’s Mill 18-6 in their scrimmage last week.

After falling behind very early 1-0, the Lady Vikes were able to tie it up with a goal from Elsa Platt. They then took the lead with a goal by Maggie Buckley to close out the first quarter. The pair each scored another goal in the second quarter as Northgate went into the half tied at 4.

During the third quarter, senior Chelbi McElwaney found her way to the back of the net, and Maggie Buckley added another 2 goals, but the Bucs were able to stay in the game with 3 of their own in the third quarter. Only allowing 1 goal in the final period, goalie Kingsley Wimer had several saves to close out the game, totaling 11 throughout the 4 quarters. Cami Pickard, Chelbi McElwaney, and Nicole Bowne all were able to add a goal in the final quarter.

Maggie Buckley led the team with 4 goals. Chelbi McElwaney and Elsa Platt each scored twice. Cami Pickard amd Nicole Bowne each had one goal apiece in the Viking Victory over the Lady Bucaneers. This made for the second consecutive season-opening win for the Lady Vikings Lacrosse team as they look to capitalize on their success from last year.

The Lady Vikes will be back in action on the 15th for a home game against Darlington with varsity playing at 6:00. They will host again on February 23 for a JV and Varsity doubleheader against Marist. Region play for Northgate will begin on March 7th when they will travel to Union Grove.
