On Thursday, the Heritage Hawks basketball teams hoste the vikings of St. Anne Pacelli for region games. All four varsity teams are currently ranked in the top 5 of their respective classifications coming into the game. Heritage Girls ranked at #2 in GIAA Class AAA, facing the #4 ranked Pacelli Girls at #4 in GIAA Class AAAA. The boys’ game featured a battle between region rivals who each sit atop the rankings in their classifications.

The girls were looking to extend their undefeated season and came out in the first half with a high-powered offense and defensive stop after stop. Lady Hawks led by 9 after the first half, but the Vikings of Pacelli knew they had to get the job done, and did just that. With a stellar defensive performance by Pacelli during the 3rd, the Lady Hawks only found the bucket once and were held to 5 points in the 4th as the Vikings mounted an impressive comeback.

Julia Susla led the Lady Hawks in scoring with 17 points and scored all of the Lady Hawks 5 second half points. Sara Cushing added 5 points, Lailah Logan had 4 points, Susan Grayton Pass had 2 points, and Aliyah Shafer had 1 point from the free throw line.

The boys’ game had a lot on the line as well, with both teams looking to say atop the region standings and also stay atop their respective classification rankings. The Hawks trailed by 4  after the first, but defense came out strong in the second to go into the half tied at 23. Mid-way through the fourth quarter, Pacelli led by 10 which seemed to be where we would end up when the buzzer sounded.

HC Joey Jerome amd the boys had other ideas. A 10-0 run in the final minutes of the game and a jump shot from Max Skidmore secured the victory for the Hawks at home. Skidmore led the team with 15 points and Sam Mead right behind him with 14 points. Mason Bolinger and Barron Ofosu-Kwarteng each had 9 points and Ian Hall added 5.

Hawks were home again on Friday for another region matchup against Strong Rock where the girls got a 48-18 win and the boys got a 65-61 win. Both teams are home AGAIN Satuday 1/27 with the girls hosting Loganville Christian and the boys hosting Heirway Christian.
