There’s no short of success within Coweta County, and some of that success was on display over the past week as ring ceremonies were held for our Middle School Football Champions as well as the GHSA Class AAAAAA State Softball Champions and the GHSA Class AAAAA State Cheerleading Champions.
The Bass Middle School football team remained perfect en route to their first-ever football county championship, finishing the season at 8-0 with a victory over Evans in the championship game. An accomplishment in itself, but capping off an incredible season-to-season improvement that shown on the field. Coming into their third season, the Bulldogs only had 3 wins in school history and quickly surpassed that, earning the top seed and home field advantage throughout the entirety of the playoffs.
The Newnan Softball team received their rings for the school’s first ever softball state championship. Maddie Veal, who was also named GACA 6A Player of the Year, was lights out throughout the playoffs. The incredible defense behind Veal’s pitching was to credit for ZERO runs allowed throughout the entirety of the playoffs.
The Northgate Competition Cheerleading team received their rings after settling the score and earning the school’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… ELEVENTH state championship trophy. There surely won’t be a blank space in the VICE trophy case because they know the ropes of state championship victories all too well. Each victory throughout the season, including a region championship, were unequivocal to the end game that always hits different. This victory earned Head Coach Taylor Callahan her 7th total championship, earning 4 as an athlete at Northgate, 1 as an assistant coach, and 2 as head coach of the Vikings in her first 3 seasons at the helm.
Congratulations to all of our champions from fall athletics! It was truly a joy to have been in each of these moments, as well as so many leading up to the trophy being lifted. Coweta is the county of champions and it is a blessing to be a part of every single athletic program across our great county. Looking forward to SO many more championships as our county continues there excellence.
Would like to thank the following people for their contributions of the pictures: Eryn Clements, Bass Football; Cindy Ivey, Newnan Softball; Rachel, Northgate Cheer.
