On Friday, the East Coweta Indians basketball teams hosted the region rival Westlake Lions. This was the second meeting between the teams during the regular season, Westlake having won both of the previous matchups against the Indians. The East Coweta teams were looking for some revenge in what was bound to be an electric environment.
The Lady Indians got the night started off with a tight first quarter only trailing by 2, but the Lady Lions came out roaring in the second quarter, putting up 21 points and holding the Lady Indians to only 6. East Coweta was able to find the bottom of the net some more coming into the second half with a 14 point third quarter, and then capped it off with 10 to finish out the game. Lady Indians fell 62-40 to Westlake. Their record falls to 6-13 (2-5 in region).
Kezoriyah Blackshear led the team offensively with 15 points, including 6 from the free throw line. Keiara Lugo was right behind her with 14 points of her own. Rihanna Reams scored all of her points in the second half with 8 of them. Ariana Simmons had a first quarter 3-pointer for her only points of the game. Makaia Darden had 2 points during the second half.
The boys game started off in an already electric atmosphere rolling over from the girls’ game. Holding a small three point lead going after the first quarter, the Indians were looking to expand that lead, but Westlake had other ideas. A 16-point team effort from the Indians was overshadowed by 24 from the Lions. The Lions continued their offensive unstoppability with 2 more 20+ point quarters, and the Indians couldn’t seem to catch up. East Coweta fell to Westlake 78-59, with their record dropping to 11-11 (2-5 in region).
It was a night where just about everybody that took the floorcontributed to the score. Bryce Bond led the team with 14 points and Isaiah Simmons with 10 points. Carby Martin added 9 points, Qwes Williams and Dylan Barbra each with 6 points. Harper Rife with 5 points, Cam Green with 4 points, Marcus Towns with 3 points, and Courtlin Heard with 2 points. ALL contributed to the Indians offensive efforts.
The Indians are back in action on Saturday for Senior Day against Callaway. Girls at 2:30, Boys at 4:00 with the senior ceremony in between. They will have a home game on Tuesday, hosting Redan with girls at 6:00 and boys at 7:30.
